Overhead Crane Training objectives are to improve and develop your skills in working with cranes and hoists. Safety standards, procedures and best practices have been established to help prevent injury and improve worker safety. Overhead Crane Training Theory Outline (4 Hours):

  • Requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Industrial Regulations
  • Pre-use/shift inspection of slings, lifting points and pendent crane
  • Load limits and capacity of crane and lifting components
  • Safe distances
  • Standard hand signals
  • Standard safe practices
  • Use of chains, slings, spreader bars, grabbers, and other attachments
  • Inspection of harness and equipment
  • Donning of a harness with each participant

 

Overhead Crane Training Practical Outline (2 Hours):

  • Inspecting the crane, slings, fittings and attachments
  • Estimate load weights
  • Practice proper rigging and lifting procedures
  • Rig and lift loads

  • Legislative guidelines and standards for compliance
  • Hoist operation

  • Loads, balance and center of gravity
  • Sling types
