CBHM offers a number of training programs in the area of lifting devices and safety, that address many workplace requirements.

Aerial Lift Platform Training

Meeting all the regulations under OHSA and the CSA standards, our aerial lift platform training will provide participants with a general understanding of the safe and efficient operation of "Power Operated Mobile Work Platforms". Participants will be able to identify specific health and safety related hazards associated with operating Man-lifts.

Our program is taught on-site at your facility and is divided into two segments, a theory component and a practical component.

Theory consists of an in class theoretical course followed by a competency evaluation and review. Practical consists of an on site evaluation which will verify the individuals ability to operate a specific Man-lift, in a safe manner.

Theory Session: 

  • Review related sections of the OHS Act, CSA Standards and Regulations 
  • Complete review of "fall arrest" required, and recommended 
  • Pre-shift equipment inspection and work area survey requirements 
  • Review site-specific hazards, and controls for safe operation of a Man-lift 
  • Review safety decals, load capabilities, and specific equipment requirements 
  • Key elements for safe operation of "Power Elevated Mobile Platforms" 

Practical Session: 

  • Complete a pre - use inspection of the aerial platform 
  • Correctly put on and inspect "fall arrest" equipment 
  • Actually drive, position, and elevate the aerial platform 
  • Be evaluated on individual operating skills 



Crane (industrial overhead/pendent) Training

Developed to help ensure pendent crane operators who work with lifting devices and sling their own loads will meet the requirements of a "Competent Person". Participants will learn to deal with the associated hazards of operating cranes and rigging loads.

Our program consists of theoretical and practical components to help ensure competency.

Participants will learn theory including... 

  • Requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Industrial Regulations 
  • Pre-use/shift inspection of slings, lifting points and pendent crane 
  • Load limits and capacity of crane and lifting components 
  • Safe distances 
  • Standard hand signals 
  • Standard safe practices 
  • Use of chains, slings, spreader bars, grabbers, and other attachments 
  • Inspection of harness and equipment 
  • Donning of a harness with each participant 

Participants will learn practical including... 

  • Inspecting the crane, slings, fittings and attachments 
  • Estimate load weights 
  • Practice proper rigging and lifting procedures 
  • Rig and lift loads 
Hoist (industrial) Training

Developed to provide operators with the safe operation of hoists. Training consists of theoretical and practical components and testing.

  • Loads, balance and center of gravity

Forklift Certification Training - Lift Truck Operator

Our lift truck operator program teaches the safe operation of Lift Trucks. Developed to meet the OH&S Act and CSA Standards to ensure operators of lift trucks are competent persons. Our training will increase operator productivity by making them more competent operators that will reduce the risk of product damage, property damage and/or accidents.

Our program consists of a theoretical component and a practical operator evaluation. All materials and forms are provided.

  • Lifting, moving and placing loads (counterbalance)

Low Lift Operator Training

Our Low Lift Operator training has been developed to increase overall knowledge of Low Lifts, to develop safe operating skills, and to improve operator attitudes and habits that will improve overall safety and performance.

The program consists of a theoretical and a practical component where participants will learn…

  • Legislation Guidelines and Standards for compliance 
  • Truck Classes 
  • Duties and Responsibilities under the act 

A practical evaluation and performance test will be conducted to ensure operators are competent in the safe operation of Low Lifts.

Lift Truck (Pedestrian Awareness) Training

Safety of the workers who work amongst lift truck operators is the objective of this training program. Developed to create an awareness of the hazards and precautions needed to work safely around lift trucks from a pedestrian perspective. 

An equal understanding of the actions to be taken by both lift truck operators and pedestrians is taught, to avoid accidents to enable the productive movement of materials.
